Module 10: Foundations of Development

Activity 10: From the ideas presented in the chapter, make a list of five arguments from other disciplines that support the ascendancy of the development communication approach.

1. Economics[if !supportLists]

According to theorists, the predominant world economics have become information based. Information and communication resources promote economic and social power , therefore, it is safe to say that mastering development communication can sure contribute to economic progress.

2. Cybernetics

If we apply Cybernatics to societal level, communication prevents information to die. Communication process secures development of the society and its survival too.

3. Biology

Efficiency in communication leads us to discoveries of more species. Biologists claim that communication provokes evolution.

4. Physics

Interconnection and line make up matter. Quantum physics regards the universe as an interconnected web of relations which could mean that communication enriches these “relations”.

5. Psychology

In order to achieve the higher needs in Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, people should serve others, helping the needy means communicating with them. Here is where development communication comes to the picture.
